Honouring Women Shaping South Africa’s Future

Posted: June 2025

“Promoting Men’s Health through Community–Researcher Collaboration.”

The 3rd Gugulethu Community–Researcher Indaba brought together researchers, health practitioners, and community members to address the realities of men’s health in South Africa.

Hosted through a collaboration between the Movement for Change and Social Justice (MCSJ) and the University of Cape Town (UCT) under the Building Research in Inter-Disciplinary Gender and HIV through the Social Sciences (BRIDGES) programme, the Indaba highlights the power of partnership in advancing community-based research and public health advocacy.

🌍 Why This Matters

Men in South Africa — particularly in the Klipfontein sub-district — continue to experience disproportionately high levels of disease and mortality due to TB, HIV, diabetes, hypertension, cancer, substance abuse, and violence-related injury.

This Indaba focused on:

  • Raising awareness around men’s health and wellbeing,
  • Strengthening local community–researcher networks, and
  • Exploring collaborative solutions for long-term health equity.

💬 About This Work

This video forms part of IHA’s ongoing collaboration with research and community partners in translating evidence into accessible, visual, and impactful storytelling.

Through platforms like We Are IHA and IHA Pulse, we aim to strengthen how research connects with communities — bridging the gap between knowledge and change.

Incredible Humans Africa is a platform and movement designed to connect researchers, creators, innovators, and institutions shaping Africa’s future.

This Brand & Visual Identity Guide presents the core principles, narrative, and visual language that unify our initiatives — across media, research, impact, and technology.

🔎 Brand Cohesion & Next Steps

To support our partners and audiences more effectively, we’re enhancing our main website and extending We Are IHA as a collaboration platform.

The Brand Cohesion Audit has helped us clarify our shared identity — ensuring a coherent message across our digital, research, and community initiatives, and reinforcing trust with every partner we engage.

Having a Brand & Visual Identity Guide allows us to:

  • Maintain consistent visual and narrative alignment across all media,
  • Strengthen credibility and recognisability with partners and funders, and
  • Build a connected ecosystem where knowledge, creativity, and measurable impact intersect.

🤝 Let’s Work Together

If you’re a partner, funder, or affiliate organisation aligned with:

  • Health & Wellbeing
  • Education & Innovation
  • Climate & Community Resilience
  • Digital Equity & Knowledge Access

we’d love to collaborate.

Our Latest Website Build: Development & Design

South Africa suffers from high levels of hunger, food insecurity, and obesity — all of which are consequences of the country’s broken food system. We support the digital promotion of the web series and related advocacy campaigns.

Together with heala.org and cmt.org.za, we've managed to support exposure, engagement and petition sign-ups to support stronger warning labels on food packaging and a stronger health promotion levy.

📽️ The Lockdown: Community Experiences, is an independently produced video intended to be used as a teaching tool to help researchers understand what the lockdown meant for some communities in Cape Town, South Africa.

This has inspired continued involvement in Community Engaged Research (CER).
